See-through printers

Ever wrestled with a printer that had a paper jam? Paper jams are the worse thing that can happen to you, especially if you are in the middle of something important and just need "that one sales figure" to wrap up something. You go ahead and print the sales report ........ And guess what? That's right, a paper jam! And, what's worse? You don't know where the jam is! This is where my idea comes in.

You see, I thought that it would be good if companies like HP (and others) could start building see-through printers (with plastic or whatever) so you could actually see exactly all the parts in the printer. Not only would this make it easier to see exactly where the paper(s) is jammed, you would also be able to see the paper trays and which ones are getting empty and so on. Once these hit the market, we could then have see-through ink cartridges so you know exactly how much ink is left! Oh and of course, the printers would look really cool too! :-)

Added on 24th February,2006: I emailed HP about this idea and the email has been sent to the R&D department for now. So you never know, See-through printers could actually be available at some stage in the near future!
