Volvo Ocean Race 2006

Well, the yachts left Wellington this afternoon for the next leg of the Volvo Ocean Race. Next Stop Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Since I?m not really into yachts and boats, (being an awful swimmer) the highlight of the event for me was the Latinbeat Fiesta at the Queens Wharf Events Centre yesterday. The event started around 3pm and went on till late at night. The Bateria from Wellington Batucada was there and the street parade was a great way to start the day. Click here for a short video clip.

There was a whole heap of singing and dancing throughout the day. There was a Merengue performance and workshop, Samba performances and workshop, Salsa performance and workshop and much more. In fact, I am surprised that I can even stand up today! There were lost of Latinos around too and I got to practice my Spanish with them. I was told a few times that I look Latino myself. Go figure!
